Well one thing is for sure, I was holding my breath watching the snowfall in MAY a week before Angi and Garrett’s big day. You may remember Angi and Garrett from their Engagement Session here. I know snow would have made for a unique story and fun Alaskan wedding photography as always, but I know Angi was ready for her Spring Wedding, and boy did I feel like heaven opened up this beautiful Memorial Weekend!
Angi and Garrett started getting ready separately at the Alyeska Hotel, but Garrett soon realized he’d better head down to the ceremony site because, as usual, Alaskans were living life to the fullest on such a beautiful holiday weekend and were quickly filling up the parking areas near the overlook at McHugh Creek where Angi and Garrett planned to say their wedding vows. (Side Note – McHugh Creek Trail is a must for you hikers, sightseers, and kite boarders willing to brave the cold Alaska waters!)
As Angi walked down the aisle, the view was absolutely breath taking. You all know how I adore the Seward Highway, and this spot is no less than a perfect backdrop for a small intimate ceremony. It was a bit breezy – as you will see we had some fun photographing Angi’s beautiful veil!! After the Ceremony and Friends and Family Portraits, adventurous Angi decided to dip her feet into the nearby stream leading to the Waterfall. I love her spirit. 🙂
Angi and Garrett chose a travel theme for her Wedding Decor mainly because most of their wedding guests were coming in from all over to share in the celebration. (You can see their adorable Passport Invitations at an older blog post here.) I loved her centerpieces! Simple, elegant and very Alaskan. Also, Angi and Garret chose helicopters as their cake toppers since serving in the Army was a big part of their lives (Angi is a Former Apache Helicopter Crewchief). After dinner, Angi, Garrett, Bryan and I took the Tram up to the top where we finished our portraits. The views never cease to amaze me from the top, but Angi’s gorgeous red hair glowing in the sunlight gave me goose bumps as we photographed a perfect ending to a perfect day.
