Alaska Horseback Bridal Session with Sam and Willow:
I have always been that girl. From My Little pony, to envying the Breyer collectible horses, from the Lipizzaner Stallion shows to Clydesdales at Busch Gardens to Rodeos, I have been horse-obsessed from the first time I ever saw a horse. ONE DAY – I shall surprise Bryan with a herd in our back yard (our yard will be bigger then I hope haha!)…but in the meantime I just dream. As we headed over to our friends’ house for game night shortly after the new year, Bryan and I drove past a snow-covered field with beautiful horses sporting their full winter coats. I think there is nothing that says “Alaska tough meets Alaska Beauty” like the winter coats the horses here get. And Alaska people are just like their horses – beautiful, strong, and tough. It was at this moment I got a crazy idea. After reaching out to my friend Jess to see if she might know of any brides with horses, she graciously offered her horse Willow, her wedding gown, and suggested her friend Sam who is getting married this summer to stand in as the Bride. After the two girls and I connected, my crazy idea was turning into session plans and we were excited! We decided since Jess was 8 months pregnant at the time to wait until March when it would be brighter and warmer.
Meet Sam. She is so thrilled to be getting married this August, and I was so happy to have her rock out this chilly session with the true glow of a bride-to-be! I loved how easy-going she was and how I felt so comfortable with her right away. She was truly up for anything!
Meet Jess and Keith’s beautiful Horse Willow. This Mamma’s girl was a little nervous being away from home and her Mamma for the evening, but she enjoyed watching the skiers and sledders, and was too sweet to put up with us taking her portrait!
Sam and Willow both made Hatcher’s Pass look even more gorgeous than it already is and I felt like Sam and Willow together encompassed the beauty and strength I had in mind for this Alaska Bridal session – a perfect combination of elegance and ruggedness.
Clearly I was able to live out my dreams vicariously through our Alaska Bride Sam – with her help, the help of Jess and Keith, and their horse Willow. Though this was a Session we planned for creativity and fun, if you have a hobby or pet or place that you love, including them in your portraits for your Engagement, Wedding and Bridal Session will make photographs even more special to look back on!
