2015 is the year…the first time in about 5 years that Bryan and myself have lived in a decent – or at least more easily commutable 7 hrs or less – proximity to my brother’s family. For this reason, my parents, as you may already know, planned a special summer visit to venture back and forth between our home in Germany and my brother’s home in Italy to take advantage of this rare opportunity. After some initial fun with my parents in Germany and Austria, my folks headed for some epic fun in the sun in Sicily and Italy with my brother and his family. As it worked out, Bryan and I ended up visiting the gang just for a night (which was so sweet to see everyone together for the very first time since my nephew was born!) in Italy before heading out on our very first ever cruise of a lifetime in Europe. My brother and sister-in-law helped us catch our first train to head into Venice where it all would begin. The next 14 or so posts will be highlights from the craziest but most wonderful trip ever that I want to share with you in case you might plan something similar one day or if you love to escape into photographs in crazy places like I do! Today I am writing on day 1.
I was ecstatic to enter into the beautiful city of Venice…but because Bryan and I knew we’d have time to explore the city later on in the week, we chose to head straight for our ship to get settled in and find our way around onboard. Though I have a special place in my heart for the Disney Cruise Line since our fantastic Caribbean vacay in 2012, we found that the itinerary and value of the Norwegian Cruise Line was a no-brainer to try for our 14 night voyage in the Adriatic. Our trip took us on board the Norwegian Jade – an older but still charming and comfortable ship.
This ship was full of friendly staff and plenty of places to swim, soak, lounge, snack, dine, or find entertainment.
It wasn’t long before we found two favorite spots to chill – on the top sun deck and the outdoor cafe seating at the back of the ship.
We set sail late in the day and passed the beautiful city and islands of Venice where Bryan and I could overlook it for the first time.
As the sun set, we enjoyed the very first night of dining and entertainment and were excited for our first stop the next day in Dubrovnik Croatia. Stay tuned as it was one of our favorite stops and will be my next post!
